Summer is upon us but will be over before we know it. We’re lucky to live in an area where there are plenty of fun things to see and do. Whether you’re more of the adventurous type or someone who enjoys taking time out to soak up some air conditioning, we have just the things to keep you entertained. Before the season is over, you have to check out these five La Crosse spots this summer.

1. Riverside International Friendship Gardens

Riverside International Friendship Gardens is a beautiful outdoor garden that’s open daily during the summer months. Volunteers take time out of their days to make sure everything here, flowers and all, are properly taken care of. Find themed gardens from areas such as France, China, Ireland, Russia, Norway, and Germany, along with several water features. The gardens are free to visit — but donations are encouraged — and are located at 345-405 E. Veterans Memorial Drive.

2. Pearl Ice Cream Parlor

To cool off and enjoy a sweet treat, head over to Pearl Ice Cream Parlor. This 1930’s-style soda fountain has some of the best ice creams in town. One of their most popular flavors is the Blue Moon, which is a tasty blue Fruit Loop cereal flavor. Try the Snappin’ Turtle, which is a vanilla base with fudge, caramel, and salted pecan. And the Cherry Chip, which is a cherry flavor with chocolate flakes and cherry halves, is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.

They offer sprinkle waffle cones, chocolate waffle cones, or sugar cones with toppings such as gummy bears, crushed Oreo, and sprinkles. They also have malt mixes and homemade candies that you can take home and enjoy for a treat later. Find them at 207 Pearl St.

3. Copeland Park

If you have young children, you might be looking for something you can do to let them play outside without getting too hot. Copeland Park features a wading area with several spraying water features. Your kids can run around and enjoy the water while you sit back and watch or even join in on the fun. You can play some baseball, softball, or tennis at the park and then hop in the wading pool to cool off. No matter what you choose to do, don’t forget the sunscreen!

Copeland Park is located at 1130 Copeland Park Drive.

4. Black River Beach

For a day of swimming and enjoying the outdoors, head over to Black River Beach. The river has areas for swimming as well as ramps to take a boat out and enjoy cruising the open water. You can even bring your fishing pole, bait, and outdoor chair to set up along the bank and fish. They offer bathhouses to change into and out of swimsuits, convenient restrooms, and a space to play volleyball. Bring lunch and drinks to make a day of it. Beach access is at 1433 Rose St.

Enjoy your summer and soak in all that the La Crosse area has to offer. From natural outdoor beauty to fun cream treats, there’s always something to do.
