When to Replace Belts and Hoses
Belts and hoses are essential to the function of your engine’s cooling, charging, and air conditioning systems. Over time, the rubber compounds that make up your belts and hoses become dry and brittle due to exposure to heat and dust. Eventually, this will cause them to break if they aren’t replaced. It is considered best practice to replace your belts and hoses once every 50,000 miles, but if you experience any of the issues listed below, it might be time to change them out sooner.
- Brittle or cracking on the outside
- Engine is overheating
- High-pitched squealing noise
- Lumps on the of the hose
- Sudden loss of power steering
- Belt is starting to glaze over
