In 2019, the Ram 1500 received a complete redesign. This model year brought increases to its capability, fuel economy, and performance. For 2020, Ram made a few more changes. These include a new EcoDiesel V-6 engine and the addition of two new appearance packages. Ram also added the option for some new exterior graphics. Here is a look at the 2020 Ram 1500.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Tradesman is the entry-level Ram 1500. It has 18-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, and it has heated and power-adjustable side door mirrors. The Big Horn/Lone Star adds 18-inch alloy wheels, the option for a fully damped tailgate, and an optional power-sliding rear window. The Rebel has off-road goodies such as skid plates and tow hook, and it also adds LED headlights and off-road bumpers. Choose the Laramie for auto-dimming side mirrors, or the Laramie Longhorn for 20-inch wheels, side steps, and a power tailgate. The luxurious Limited adds power-deployable running boards, and it comes standard with Ram's air suspension.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the 1500 is a 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine with 305 horsepower that gets some help from a 48-volt mild hybrid system. An optional 5.7-liter V-8 gas engine delivers 395 horsepower, and a third option adds the mild-hybrid system to the V-8. All models offer the option for either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. A new 3.0-liter diesel engine arrived for 2020 and delivers 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The Ram 1500 offers a smooth ride for a pickup truck, and this is even better if you add the air suspension in all four corners. It can tow up to 6,250 pounds on the low end and up to 12,750 pounds with the tow package and the right configuration. If you want to head off-road, the Rebel has all the extras to get you over rough terrain, including an off-road suspension.
Interior
One of the changes for the 2020 model year is that every 1500 has two rows of seats. It can hold up to six people with plenty of legroom for both rows of seats. Vinyl upholstery comes in the Tradesman with cloth added to the Big Horn along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Laramie gets leather upholstery, driver's seat memory settings, heated and ventilated seats in the front, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Options for the Limited and Laramie Longhorn include ventilated rear seats.
Tech features include an 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen system, the option for a large 12-inch touch screen, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, and navigation.
Safety Features
Standard safety features for all Ram 1500 trucks include stability control, trailer sway control, a full suite of air bags, and a rearview camera. The Limited comes standard with advanced features such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and these are available as an option for all trims except the Tradesman. The high-end trims also offer the option for forward-collision warning, an emergency braking system, and lane-keep assist.
